Do I need a Visa?
Visas are not required for U.S. citizens traveling to Argentina for stays less than 3 months. However, as of December 28, 2009 a reciprocity tax will be collected upon arrival in Argentina. This is $131.00 for US citizens and can be paid with US dollars, Argentine Pesos, a credit card, or traveler’s checks. There is no visa requirement or entry tax for travel to Uruguay.
What Vaccines do I need?
The CDC recommends you be current on all routine vaccines. Yellow Fever and Malaria are present in Iguasu falls so you should consult a doctor.
What will the weather be like?
The average temperature in Buenos Aires and Montevideo during July is in the 40-60 degree range, in Bariloche in the 30-40 degree range, and in Iguazu Falls in the 50-70 degree range.
What is the standard for tips?
Locals will tell you 10% or less is standard, and typically tourists tip a bit more.
How much money will I spend?
While in Buenos Aires you will have the option of eating out or preparing your own meals. An elegant dinner with wine will run approximately $12-18 per person and the cost of preparing a meal in the dormitory kitchen will run approximately $2-$3. If you decide to ski while in Bariloche it will cost approximately $100/day to rent clothes and equipment and to pay for a ski pass. Other optional activities in Bariloche and Iguazu Falls such as rafting, paragliding, mountain trekking, or repelling will cost approximately $20-$65 per person.
What is included?
Tuition, accommodation, flights to and from Buenos Aires/New York(additional fee may apply from other cities), flights to and from Bariloche/Buenos Aires, flights to and from Iquazu Falls/Buenos Aires, ferry trip to and from Montevideo, guided tours in Buenos Aires/Bariloche/Iquazu Falls/Montevideo, and various organized activities throughout the program.
Will I obtain credit at my home college?
University de Buenos Aires is an extremely well regarded university and our 1 month intensive Spanish course will almost certainly quality for either 3 or 4 credits. Upon completion of the course UBA will send your transcript to both you and your university.
How do I pay?
A $2,500 deposit is required to reserve a spot, and the balance is due May 10.
